Badgerland Lacrosse Association

Below is a message from Badgerland Lacrosse Association. The league association is looking for volunteers interested in being part of the board as we look ahead at the 2019 season. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or are interested.

Badgerland Lacrosse Association (BLA) has recently experienced a high level of turnover with our governing board.  Our current board structure consists of 9 voting positions.  Due to recent resignations and board incumbents not seeking reelection we now only have 4 of those 9 positions filled – one of the open positions being the president of the board.

Badgerland Lacrosse Board of Directors

Filled Board Positions (possibly up for reelection this year)

·       High School Girls Vice President – Brian Holmes

·       Girls Youth Vice President – Toni Wizner

·       Boys Youth Vice President - J.B. Engeler

·       Communications and Marketing - Sarah Kleemann

Open Board Positions

·       President

·       Treasurer

·       Secretary

·       Sportsmanship

·       High School Boys Vice President

For our BLA Board June meeting we were not able to formally conduct a meeting as we could not form a quorum (a majority or better of voting board members present).  There was again no formal meeting for BLA in the month of July.  In response to the large amount of board turnover and uncertainty in how the board and organization would move forward, a small amount of former and remaining board members met to discuss the current situation and strategize how we successfully move forward as an organization.  Board participation is our critical focus and first step moving forward to stabilizing and strengthening our organization.  We as a board and organization cannot function with only 4 members.

To survive and have a successful 2019 season at all levels (or a 2019 season at all for that matter), it is imperative for volunteers to step up.  For the sport of lacrosse to continue to grow in our area our organization needs stability.  We need help.

We are looking for creative, motivated, and positive individuals to join our board and help shape the direction of organization moving forward and further growth of the sport of lacrosse in our area.  We are confident WIAA sponsorship of our sport, for both girls and boys, is on the near horizon.  We can’t afford for our organization to take a step backwards.

If you (or someone you know may know) may be interested in being a part of the Badgerland Lacrosse Association Board, wishes to help in the form of a committee member or have questions regarding the future of BLA and lacrosse in the Madison area, please contact:

Brian Holmes

Vice President High School Girls

We are setting a deadline of October 1st for interested candidates with elections to follow at the October meeting (the 3rd Wednesday of each month, location TBD).  We currently have zero leads for possible candidates.  If we do not have all voting member board positions filled following the BLA October meeting, we will have to make do with what we are as a board at that point.  The closer we are to a complete board the more successful and productive we will be moving forward plain and simple.

Thanks for your efforts and support!

SPLAX' 2020-21 and 14U teams competed this past weekend at the Capital Classic Tournament at Reddan Park. Both teams had fun and did well. The 2020-21 team made of exclusively SPLAX players made it to the "ship" going 4 wins and 0 losses in pool play and defeated Minnesota Lacrosse Club Gold in the semifinal game. They met their match in the final game vs Northwest Indiana Elite Steelheads, losing 10-5. Our 14U team had 3 wins and 1 loss in pool play and then went on to bracket play where they lost in the semifinals. A great showing for SPLAX and a great way to finish the Spring/Summer Lacrosse Season.

Thanks to all of the players, families and coaches who participated in the tournament and our summer program!
